Well, this has been a challenging painful week for our country. It is hard to believe that as we approach the 20th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we are watching the Taliban retake control in Afghanistan and the gains we thought we had achieved melt away. Many prayers go out to our friends and colleagues who are still in country. May they find safe passage soon.
Even though it may be too soon for us to understand where we go from here it is not too soon to remember what got us into our “longest” war in the first place. Our program on Sep 9th, 2021 is intended to honor those killed or injured on Sep 11th 2001 and the thousands who defended our country in the aftermath (at home and abroad) through the sharing of our memories of the day.
NSF wants to hear from all of you about your most vivid memories of 9/11. Where were you? What did you do when you heard the news? What were you thinking as the day unfolded? How did that day change the course of your life or not? Do you remember life before 9/11 and if not, how did the images of that day shape your childhood to adulthood?
We want to collect your short stories (200 words) and to have as many as possible shared during our Zoom event on Sep 9th. We all have stories to tell and hearing from each other helps forge bonds within our community through recognition of a common shared experience. Through stories from the mundane to the harrowing we can help future generations see beyond the tragedy of 9/11 to the human side of history and understand why we must “never forget.”
To share your story, click on this link and fill out the story survey: NSF 911 Remembered Stories
You will have the option to note if you want to share your story stories orally during our program (read by you, me or someone of your choosing) and/or have your story posted on our website. The Zoom webinar will be open so everyone can speak and interact during this program.
