March 18, 2025 – Hybrid Forum: Nuclear Proliferation Risks Expanding in a New Era

As NSFers may remember we usually schedule a meeting early in the year featuring stalwart NSF expert contributors sharing their thoughts on the current Administration’s national security strategies, with special attention on nuclear security issues. In 2025, we find ourselves in a new era of rapidly expanding nuclear energy programs, after a long hiatus following the 2011 Fukashima disaster, with China leading the pack by a mile.

August 20, 2024 – Hybrid Forum: Nuclear Insecurity: Threats, Risks, and Responses

NTI reports there are 13,100 nuclear weapons in the world, 9 nuclear armed countries – the US, Russia, United Kingdom, France, China, India, Pakistan, North Korea, and Israel (undeclared) – and 22 countries with significant quantities of weapons-usable nuclear materials that may be at risk of theft or proliferation.

Great news and welcome back to our NSF northern Nevada residents! Our next quarterly in-person event will be the Nevada Energy Security Forum on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2022 at the Montreux Golf & Country Club in Reno, Nevada. Panelists at the Nevada Energy Security Forum will discuss challenges and opportunities for Nevada and the region as we transition to alternative energy resources and away from fossil fuels.

Mar. 9, 2022 – NSF Special Topic Panel Discussion #1: War in Ukraine – Impacts to Nuclear Security

Less than two weeks ago NSF hosted an event about the impending war in Ukraine. Dr. Dmitry Gorenburg, Senior Research Scientist from CNA (formerly the Center for Naval Analysis), Professor Barbara Walker (UNR, Dept. History), and our very own Keith Hansen shared their insight about the factors that brought Russia to the brink of waging war in Ukraine.
