Dr. Chris Preble’s Presentation

NSF participants:

I think everyone agrees that yesterday’s presentation by Dr. Chris Preble on “The Defense Budget Can–and Should–be Cut” was one of the very best we have had. Very even handed, persuasive and loaded with valuable data.

Going into this talk I had anticipated many attendees being in a camp that opposed cutting defense spending, but at the same time wanting to reduce the size of government and federal spending. I thought Dr. Preble disarmed those potential critics by demonstrating how inefficient defense spending is in creating jobs, in that the money first has to be raised through taxes and passed through an endless and inefficient bureaucracy–all of which dampens job creation. His view–to the extent possible, leave that money in the hands of the private sector.

Preble was also persuasive in showing what a large portion of global defense spending the U.S. accounts for, how little our “allies” are assisting, and questioning the wisdom of “constant interventions”.

Many asked to have the slides he used, and for more information about the CATO Institute, where Chris is a senior VP. You can click onto the link below to learn more about CATO and …….to access his PowerPoint presentation.
